Commentary on Under One Nation
In the post by my colleague titled Roe vs. Wade Must End, the author was against abortion except for in situations such as rape, incest and the health of the mother. I am in complete agreement with this post. I have also researched this topic and I found a statistics page on abortion which reported that 1% of all abortions occur because of rape or incest; 6% of abortions occur because of potential health problems regarding either the mother or child, and 93% of all abortions occur for social reasons (i.e. the child is unwanted or inconvenient).. With that said I believe most women are not willing to deal with the consequences of their own actions. It is not a rare case for women to get pregnant after being sexually active. They knew they might get pregnant, but decided to be irresponsible anyway. The other side of abortion is that, not only does it murder the life inside of the mom, but it also endangers the life of the mother. I knew a woman who had two abortions and was told she would probably never be able to have children after that. That is not sad to me because I think someone who destroys the life inside of them should never have the privilege to carry another life again, but I am just trying to tell of the harm that is done to women's bodies when an abortion is done. I hope that one day abortion will be illegal, but it seems like our government is so concerned about rights that pretty soon it is going to be a citizen's rights to do whatever they please. I feel that the government is always giving people a way out to where they do not have to face all the consequences. If one knows they are going to have to face the consequences and there is no way out, then they would be less likely to commit the actions in the first place.

FDA Approved?
Can we trust the seal of approval? The FDA is the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Their slogan is, 'Protecting and Promoting Your Health.' I am not very confident that we can trust those words. I believe that they do testing to see how much harm the product will do; instead of ruling the product out if it is harmful at all. One of the most well-known controversies is aspartame. Aspartame is a substitute sweetener that has been researched many times and they always find something that is linked to the use of it. According to Mark Gold, a researcher and writer, for over 80 years the FDA would not approve aspartame because of its harmful ingredients, but it was finally approved in 1981. This product has been tested on animals and it produced brain tumors and caused seizures. Also there is a list of complaints and the number of times that complaint was made after ingesting aspartame. I for one am a testimony of one of these complaints. I have eaten gelatin, yogurt, and drank drinks that were sweetened with aspartame. I immediately received a headache. Aspartame contains methanol which is also known as wood alcohol, a deadly poison. It also consists of formaldehyde which is found in vehicle exhaust and tobacco smoke.
Author of Fight for Your Health, Byron Richards has found many curiosities in our food and drugs that is very harmful to our bodies. Richards wrote an article in 2006 about the FDA's decision to approve a viral cocktail to be sprayed on foods such as cold cuts, sausages, hot dogs, sliced turkey and chicken. This virus is supposed to fight the bacteria found in sick animals so that it is "safe" for us to eat it. Unfortunately, it also fights the friendly bacterias in out bodies that make up the lining of our digestive systems. Richards made a good point in saying,"Rather than address the source of the problem, the FDA wants to add another adulteration into our food supply."
Since the FDA is approving these harmful products, I would assume their only concern is that the product does not instantly kill. If it can pass that test, then it is approved. The moral of this blog is that we Americans need to become more nutritionally smart. We need to start reading the fine print on the back of the box and read all the ingredients and understand what those ingredients are. Food companies in conjunction with the FDA are deceiving us by putting things on the front of the box telling us what the product does not have in it, but what about what it does have in it? What we don't know won't kill us? I disagree.

Commentary on The New Election Year
It seems like the more one messes up the more America babies them. The fact that the government is willing to supply "Education funds for Sex Offenders" is absolutely ridiculous. I disagree with funding education for prison inmates and those with drug offenses too. I am sick and tired of my taxes cleaning up other peoples messes. It is time people clean up their own mess and if they don't, then they have to live with the consequences. It is called "get a job". For some reason people think if they go to school, then they cannot work. I am able to work full time and go to school full time and make decent grades. I have tried for the past five years to get financial aid, I was denied every time. I guess they figure since I work, I can take care of myself. They are mainly concerned about the students who are too irresponsible, lazy and unwilling to take care of themselves. I think it is time America's citizens are individually held accountable for their own mistakes. I believe mistakes can be used as a learning tool for the individual who made the mistake, not me. As a responsible citizen I should not be held accountable for the errors other citizens make.

Only 25 percent of teenage girls has an STD
Although it is nice to think teenagers do not have sex it is also naive. Considering the fact that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention supplied information showing that one in four girls has one of the four most common sexually transmitted diseases one can see that obviously teenagers do have sex. There have been major efforts to convince the government that it is extremely important that they make the human papilloma virus vaccination mandatory for admission to school nationwide. As for right now, the attempts have slowed down.
The government's glasses are so fogged up by Medicare and Medicaid issues that they can barely see the definite and growing need of STD vaccinations in teenage girls. My argument is that this needs to be a priority on the governments list. They should make this mandatory, because if it is not, then it will not get done. If teens do not start getting vaccinated then it is likely that by the time they are adults there will be an STD rate of fifty percent, since normally humans do not stop having intercourse when they become an adult.
What about the people who cannot afford to have their child vaccinated? I believe it should be government funded. There are plenty of issues that the government finds important enough to fund, I strongly believe that this is a very important issue. We are talking about twenty-five percent of the women in our future generation having HPV, chlamydia, trichomoniasis or genital herpes. It is time that the government makes the law stating that in order to be admitted into school it is mandatory that one has the HPV vaccination and it will be paid for by the government. It will cost a lot of money to prevent the STD, but it will cost a lot more to treat the STD.

Government to Pick Up Health Care Tab
On February 25, 2008, Kevin Freking wrote an article that applies to everyone in the nation including the government. The growing need for health care concerns different people in different ways, but it does affect everyone. Whether you are the government who has to, as Freking put it, "pick up the tab", or the taxpayer who has to pay higher taxes to the government so they can pay the cost or the person who needs the health care, everyone is affected at some time or another. Health care spending came out to $2.1 trillion in 2006. It is fore casted to increase 6.7 percent a year. The CSM (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services) economist said, "Health is projected to consume an expanding share of the economy, which means that policymakers, insurers, and the public will face increasingly difficult decisions about the way health care is delivered and paid for."
The government has plans to slow health care spending, but I disagree that finding a way to provide for all the ill Americans health care is the only solution. America has no meaning of patience or moderation. We want it,we want it now, and we want it to the max. We do not want to have one "bad" meal every once in a while, we want to have a "bad" meal at least once a day. We do not want to save our money to be able to purchase goods, we will go into debt so we can have the best and have it now. We do not want to continue to exercise because we have not seen results within the first three days. We smoke, drink, abuse drugs and drive ourselves to exhaustion and stress. It should not be to our surprise that America is unhealthy and broke. I understand that there are disabilities, sicknesses and financial situations that were completely out of one's control, but there are many that can be controlled. I believe healthier regulations should be in place for any organization that sells food or drinks. Physical and mental exercise should be mandatory in nursing homes. We need to formulate a way to get America excited about living healthy. In the financial aspect of it, one should not be approved to buy something they cannot afford. That is how our nation has slid into this pile of debt.
In conclusion, as health care for America is planned to heavily increase it is important for the government to have a financial plan in place; however, it is equally or more important to focus on getting America healthy.
Spending on Health to Rise Dramatically

Anti-Abortion Rally
On Tuesday, January 22, 2008 dozens of Texas teenagers joined the 'March for Life' that was held in Washington D.C. The purpose of 'March for Life' is to protest against abortion to the government and to the public. Attenders of this march argue that it is unethical to commit abortion. A freshman from Centennial High School in Texas said, "Abortion is wrong. It is just not right to kill an unborn person because of something you did." Another student from Texas stated, "I'm here for the women. Mothers killing babies is like a dysfunction of women's nature." I am in absolute agreement with both of these protesters. Women in today's society are told to, "Do what feels good", so they do, but they are not ready to take on the responsibility that may follow their actions. I understand that it takes two to make a baby, but unfortunately men do not have to carry the baby.
President Bush attended the march and spoke these words, "Thirty-five years ago today the United States Supreme Court declared and decided that under the law an unborn child is not considered a person, but we know many things about the unborn...the fingers and toes and beating hearts that we can see on an unborn child's ultrasound come with something that we cannot see-a soul." He stated the words, "unborn child". If an unborn child is not a child, then why do we refer to a pregnant woman as being "with child"? Abortion is murdering an innocent child that has not fled the womb. "All life begins at conception", declared Ron Paul. I am not sure about you, but my life began at conception. An ultrasound is evidence that an unborn child is a life. Through an ultrasound we can detect the sex, watch it move, hear the heart beat and much more. A heartbeat is vital to human life. That is the most common way to tell if one is dead or alive. If they have a pulse, they are alive.
The conclusion of abortion being legal has allowed for 1.2 million abortions in 2005. In Texas alone 85,760 aborted their children which comes out to 15% of all women who were pregnant in Texas. There are a few road blocks that Americans put up in order to stop the government from making abortion illegal. Those are reasons such as rape, incest and fetal abnormality. In a survey conducted by the Alan Guttmacher Institute, a research arm of Planned Parenthood, of why 1,900 women aborted their child, 95% said they were aborting their child due to social reasons. 1% were due to rape, incest and fetal abnormality, but of that 1%, 99% are due to fetal abnormality. Those issues by far are not the biggest that we are dealing with. I believe the biggest issue is the government does not want to take away a woman's right. A woman has the right to be sexually active and not use the proper precautions. Lack of planning on a woman's part does not constitute the legality of abortion on the government's part.

Stimulus Package
We are in a recession. Americans are losing their jobs and foreclosures in every state have increased substantially. In and act to stimulate the economy the government is working on a package that will give U.S. taxpayers several hundred dollars. You will receive $600 if you are single and $1200 if you are married, plus possibly $300 per child. To some Americans that is not much and to others it is an extra paycheck to help them get caught up. I think some people will blow the money, but so many people need this money to get back up on their feet. The budget deficit will jump to $250 billion; however if they do not give the package away then the economy will continue to decrease anyway. The way I see it, they can use this package to stimulate the economy and improve it and in the long run , or they can watch the economy continue to go down. I am impressed by the idea and I am proud to be a part of this country that would grant this opportunity to it's citizens to help rebuild it's financial future. I believe this article is important to a large portion of this country because the majority are taxpayers and this applies to taxpayers.
