On Tuesday, January 22, 2008 dozens of Texas teenagers joined the 'March for Life' that was held in Washington D.C. The purpose of 'March for Life' is to protest against abortion to the government and to the public. Attenders of this march argue that it is unethical to commit abortion. A freshman from Centennial High School in Texas said, "Abortion is wrong. It is just not right to kill an unborn person because of something you did." Another student from Texas stated, "I'm here for the women. Mothers killing babies is like a dysfunction of women's nature." I am in absolute agreement with both of these protesters. Women in today's society are told to, "Do what feels good", so they do, but they are not ready to take on the responsibility that may follow their actions. I understand that it takes two to make a baby, but unfortunately men do not have to carry the baby.
President Bush attended the march and spoke these words, "Thirty-five years ago today the United States Supreme Court declared and decided that under the law an unborn child is not considered a person, but we know many things about the unborn...the fingers and toes and beating hearts that we can see on an unborn child's ultrasound come with something that we cannot see-a soul." He stated the words, "unborn child". If an unborn child is not a child, then why do we refer to a pregnant woman as being "with child"? Abortion is murdering an innocent child that has not fled the womb. "All life begins at conception", declared Ron Paul. I am not sure about you, but my life began at conception. An ultrasound is evidence that an unborn child is a life. Through an ultrasound we can detect the sex, watch it move, hear the heart beat and much more. A heartbeat is vital to human life. That is the most common way to tell if one is dead or alive. If they have a pulse, they are alive.
The conclusion of abortion being legal has allowed for 1.2 million abortions in 2005. In Texas alone 85,760 aborted their children which comes out to 15% of all women who were pregnant in Texas. There are a few road blocks that Americans put up in order to stop the government from making abortion illegal. Those are reasons such as rape, incest and fetal abnormality. In a survey conducted by the Alan Guttmacher Institute, a research arm of Planned Parenthood, of why 1,900 women aborted their child, 95% said they were aborting their child due to social reasons. 1% were due to rape, incest and fetal abnormality, but of that 1%, 99% are due to fetal abnormality. Those issues by far are not the biggest that we are dealing with. I believe the biggest issue is the government does not want to take away a woman's right. A woman has the right to be sexually active and not use the proper precautions. Lack of planning on a woman's part does not constitute the legality of abortion on the government's part.
