On February 25, 2008, Kevin Freking wrote an article that applies to everyone in the nation including the government. The growing need for health care concerns different people in different ways, but it does affect everyone. Whether you are the government who has to, as Freking put it, "pick up the tab", or the taxpayer who has to pay higher taxes to the government so they can pay the cost or the person who needs the health care, everyone is affected at some time or another. Health care spending came out to $2.1 trillion in 2006. It is fore casted to increase 6.7 percent a year. The CSM (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services) economist said, "Health is projected to consume an expanding share of the economy, which means that policymakers, insurers, and the public will face increasingly difficult decisions about the way health care is delivered and paid for."
The government has plans to slow health care spending, but I disagree that finding a way to provide for all the ill Americans health care is the only solution. America has no meaning of patience or moderation. We want it,we want it now, and we want it to the max. We do not want to have one "bad" meal every once in a while, we want to have a "bad" meal at least once a day. We do not want to save our money to be able to purchase goods, we will go into debt so we can have the best and have it now. We do not want to continue to exercise because we have not seen results within the first three days. We smoke, drink, abuse drugs and drive ourselves to exhaustion and stress. It should not be to our surprise that America is unhealthy and broke. I understand that there are disabilities, sicknesses and financial situations that were completely out of one's control, but there are many that can be controlled. I believe healthier regulations should be in place for any organization that sells food or drinks. Physical and mental exercise should be mandatory in nursing homes. We need to formulate a way to get America excited about living healthy. In the financial aspect of it, one should not be approved to buy something they cannot afford. That is how our nation has slid into this pile of debt.
In conclusion, as health care for America is planned to heavily increase it is important for the government to have a financial plan in place; however, it is equally or more important to focus on getting America healthy.
